Writing Retreats

Spring Retreat

Where: St Peter’s Abbey

Each spring, members of the Saskatchewan Romance Writers get away to St Peter’s Abbey in Muenster, SK. This beautiful abbey is the oldest Benedictine monastery in Canada, and provides a place of peace, silence, and beauty in which to focus on the craft of writing.

Attendees stay in individual rooms and devote the day to writing, revision, or just drawing a little mental stillness away from daily life. In the evenings, we gather in the common room to visit, share thoughts on the day’s work, and good wine among good friends. Meals are provided. The retreat usually runs from a Friday evening to Sunday afternoon, often with room for extensions before and/or after.

Fall Retreat

Where: Ancient Spirals

After a busy summer, members get together once again at Ancient Spirals Retreat on the banks of the South Saskatchewan River at the end of September. Amid rolling hills and turning leaves, we focus once again on our writing.

Some years, we hold a craft-oriented retreat, where members share techniques and experiences, critique works-in-progress, or present on writing topics. Other years, we hold a second writing retreat with a more communal atmosphere. The weekend focuses on improving everyone’s abilities and encouraging growth, while sharing in the company and inspiration of fellow writers. Attendees share rooms and work together to prepare meals. The retreat runs from a Friday evening to Sunday afternoon.
